I’m Katherine!

You may have already gotten a hint of this already... but I LOVE what I do!

Documenting your wedding day is such an honor!! Since we’ll be spending a lot of time together on the big day, I want to make sure you really feel like you know me!

Most days you can find me wrapped in a fuzzy blanket, my corgi, Dolly at my feet, hair in a messy bun, and coffee (or should I say creamer) in hand, all while working away in my home office. When I'm not working (if you can even call it that!) you can most likely find me at the cabin, enjoying the outdoors and preparing for hunting season. I love decorating our home, hand written cards, red dirt country music, llamas & corgis (especially my own corgi Dolly!), and of course my best friend & hubby Waylen! :)

I know for a fact that I am so very lucky to do what I do, and I will never tire of celebrating alongside of each and every couple!

First, you’ll fill out the contact form so that I can get some information about your wedding, and check availability on your wedding date. Once I receive your inquiry, I’ll send you an email with a welcome packet, giving you more information on my process & packages!

step two

We’ll set up a consultation so that we can get to know each other, answer any of your questions, and make sure we’re a great fit! Once you sign & return a contract and deposit, you’re officially a Katherine Zell bride!

Step Three

About 4-6 months from your wedding date, I will set up one of my favorite things: your engagement session! This session will last anywhere from 1 to 1.5 hours, and will consist of lots of laughter, forehead kisses, snuggles, and a bear hug or two.

Step Four

About 2 weeks from your wedding day, I will send you a photography timeline to look over and approve. Once the timeline is approved, we are ready to go!

Step Five

On your wedding day, all you need to do is have the best day ever, and leave the moment-capturing to me!

Frequently Asked Questions

What sets you apart from other photographers? +

I am a lover of natural light. Why not use what the Good Lord gave us? My goal at the end of the day is to have created an easy, relaxed, natural, and FUN experience for you. I strive to capture the love that you share in an honest and warm way that tells a story.

Will we get the print release to our photos after our wedding? +

Yes! Upon receiving your images, you will also get the full print release.

How many photographers will be at our wedding? +

All of my collections include a second photographer to help capture all the extra details of your day. A second photographer offers some more variety, options, and can help your wedding day go even more smoothly. Plus, who doesn’t love more pictures?!

Do you photograph elopements? +

Absolutely! I would love to hear all about your ideas and dreams and help you to achieve them. Get in touch and ask about special rates for weekday elopements or weddings.

We're having a destination wedding. Do you travel? +

Why yes, of course! I love to travel! Send me some more information on your travel plans and I will create a custom wedding package just for you.

How do we reserve our wedding date? +

A $500 deposit and a signed contract is needed to reserve your wedding date. The rest of the payment is due 30 days prior to your wedding date, unless otherwise noted.

One of my favorite things is starting off a day with beautiful details! I consider this my “warm up” time, and these details allow me to be creative from the moment I begin shooting on your wedding day!

Favorites images-02.png

Portrait time with the bride and groom is hands down my FAVORITE part of the day! This is when I thrive and when my couples really get to enjoy their wedding day. I especially love first looks and stealing a few moments to grab some sunset photos!

Favorites images-03.png

The first dances are definitely one of my favorite parts of the day! I cant tell you how many times I have teared up watching these moments! Not only can it be super sentimental and emotional, it is a time that I can get creative with lighting and different angles!

This is something that we love to educate on! We love getting ready spaces that are soaked with natural light.

Try finding a space that is open, de-cluttered, simple walls and tons of windows.

When we show up, the first thing we'll do is open blinds (with the naked people in mind) and turn off any yellow, yucky lights. By doing so, this helps us achieve that clean, timeless natural light look.  If your venue doesn't supply you with a getting ready space, we highly recommend checking out AirBnB - or a boutique hotel!

The whole day begins with the DETAILS! This is one of my favorite parts of the wedding day, because it allows me to prepare and get my creative side warmed up for the rest of the day!

I photograph a bride’s details in a way that matches and showcases the style of the entire wedding day.

So, in some ways, the details set the stage for the look of the whole wedding and I love having ample time to stylize, and shoot everything from the dress, to the jewelry, to grandma’s handkerchief! I ask brides to gather any details they have before I arrive so that I can walk in, say hello, give you a big hug and then begin with all the goodies! (Please assure your mom that I will take GREAT care of the dress, I promise!)

  • Dress

  • Veil / hair pieces

  • Rings (all three)

  • Shoes

  • Jewelry

  • Bouquet & boutonniere

  • Perfume

  • Invitation suite

  • Borrowed & blue

Sometimes, depending on the theme and “look” of the wedding day, there may be some extra elements that you could include when you gather your details. For example, if you’re having a country themed wedding, you could include a piece of burlap or lace. If you’re having a rustic themed wedding that includes some wooden elements, maybe save a small piece of wood for me to use when I’m shooting your rings and jewelry. This REALLY makes for beautiful, consistent wedding day!

You’re investing a lot into your wedding photography. With a first look, you’ll receive 40% MORE portraits of the two of you... and those are the images you will decorate your first home with! With a first look, you make the most out of this large investment and get the most for your money.

You actually get to have intimate time on your wedding day with your man. Most brides don’t realize that when you come down the aisle and totally SHOCK him with your gorgeous-ness... he can’t even tell you how amazing you look. He can’t touch you, embrace you or even SPEAK to you. You have to wait until 30 minutes later when the ceremony is over for him to react and tell you how amazing you look. And after 30 minutes of the ceremony, the reaction isn’t the same as the initial first glance.

First Looks allow you to be TOGETHER and alone on your wedding day. When you see each other, not only is it intimate, it is your only time to be alone the whole day! You may cried and laugh and cried some more... and then that put you in the PERFECT mood for romantic portraits. Sometimes portraits can be a little rushed after the family formals, and it can be hard to really get back into that “lovey dovey” mode.... especially with family around! When you have just shared your first look, you’re READY to love on each other, and I always capture some super sweet images during those moments!

You get rid of your nerves! I’d say, literally 1/2 of my couples who have decided to do a first look, the grooms were not fans of it at first. However, because they have never experienced their wedding day before, they didn’t know how nerve racking it can be. I have testimonials from so many grooms who initially weren’t a fan of the first look... but afterwards admitted to being SO much more relaxed and ready for the ceremony!

If the weather permits, I always recommend sneaking out of your reception
to create some dreamy golden hour sunset photos!
This is one of my absolute favorite times!

There is something special about creating your first heirloom. We made our wedding album right after we were married and we treasure it! Having digital images is wonderful, but having a printed keepsake that tells a visual story of our wedding day is priceless! So many times your images just sit on your computer, and never get printed. If you haven’t already invested in an Album of your own, you can always come back to me at any time and order one. These albums are important not just for our couples to have... but for their grandchildren to enjoy as well.

. . . with a parent album!

You won’t have any trouble picking out your parent’s Christmas gifts the year you get married! Your parents do so much to make your wedding a dream come true, so surprise them with their very own albums on Christmas morning! After the wedding chaos is over and life returns to normal, or if you want to surprise your parents with their very own albums from your wedding for Christmas, let me know before November 1st so we can get them ordered!
